In July 2023 I was also asked to deliver a short talk about my work in the Ferens Gallery around the time of the start of the open exhibition, kicking off the first in a series of monthly talks by local featured artists.
About the painting:
A few years ago in Norwich when I was walking home one night, I passed a closed barber shop that was lit with the most vivid red lights I’d ever seen. I quickly took some pictures and intended to eventually use them in some way creatively, but it all worked out in the end when I finally got around to painting it this year for the Ferens Exhibition. I’m glad that the final print has done justice to the intense colours – it’s rare to chance across something so striking and cinematic in real life, and be able to capture the moment.
